Education Minister Hon. Douglas Syakalima has called for aggressive monitoring of education standards in schools countrywide.
Hon. Syakalima has said the implementation of free education has no doubt brought a lot of children in schools but there is need to scale up monitoring of adherence to education standards in schools.
Speaking at his Office in Lusaka today when he handed over 10 speed boats to 7 provinces for monitoring of education standards in places accessible by water, Hon. Syakalima said his Ministry wants to ensure that there is inclusive and equitable provision of education in the country.
“I present to you Ten water boats, secured at a cost of K9.8 Million. These boats represent hope, opportunity, and the promise of a better future for thousands of learners and education administrators. This mode of transportation will also enable education administrators to conduct regular inspections of such schools.” Hon. Syakalima said.
He said the Ministry of Education selected 10 beneficiary districts based on the hierarchy of needs and procured ten water boats.
The districts that will receive the boats are Zambezi and Chavuma in North Western, Mpulungu in Northern, Kafue in Lusaka Province, Nchelenge in Luapula and Ngabwe in Central Province.
Others are Siavonga and Itezhi tezhi in Southern Province and Mitete and Nalolo in Western Province.
